I WANNA BE A COWBOY

I WANNA BE A COWBOY

All these years, you’ve been thinking that Paris is the capital of fashion. The center of it all, the mecca, the birthplace of every hot new trend.

The epitome of chic to which we all aspire. I am not denying it. Chanel, Balenciaga, Hermès, Dior, Givenchy, yes, yes they are all here, and when Fashion Week comes around, everything is hopping, buzzing, beautiful and creative.

But I’m going to let you in on a big secret. Deep down, a lot of fashionistas just wanna be cowboys.

It doesn’t mean you have to dress like Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, or Porter Wagoner, no. Nothing that obvious, but always remember to add just the right touch of Americana to evoke the Wild West, manifest a certain freedom of spirit, a Maverick soul. I think these images from French Vogue’s November issue say it quite eloquently. They feature the kind of pieces that you want to wear time and time again, like a well-worn pair of boots, leather pants that fit you like a second skin, that never pinch, but mold to your body and become your own. An ultra-soft, lamb suede jacket with your favorite jeans. A prized sterling-silver buckle and leather belt cinched over an oversized, woolen sweater. A bolo tie that belonged to your grandfather, matched with a Charvet scarf. A simple, cotton bandana over a leather jumpsuit. Yes, deep down, we all just wanna be cowboys. In my next post, we'll be hunting for the perfect perfecto.
